Environmental, Social and Governance
Environmental, social and governance considerations have always been at the heart of Bluefield.
Bluefield was created to attract capital into renewable energy infrastructure, providing a sustainable and ethical method of energy generation and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. However, Bluefield does not only focus on its environmental impact – we understand that consideration of social and governance factors is essential for the long-term sustainability of investments.
Bluefield is committed to making a significant contribution towards the transition to clean energy, particularly considering the UK Government’s National Energy and Climate Plan and recent commitment to end its contribution to global warming by 2050.
As at 30 June 2020, the portfolio capacity was 478.8MWp, providing an annual saving of over 125,500 tonnes of CO2.
Bluefield’s highest priority is ensuring the safety of its staff. We have developed comprehensive, strictly governed H&S procedures and processes. We regularly engage with external consultants to ensure high H&S standards are maintained.
Detailed governance frameworks have been created across all Bluefield businesses. From H&S, cybersecurity and contractor due diligence, to transparent reporting – governance considerations form the basis of our business operations.
Effective land management is essential to maintaining biodiversity on sites.
Bluefield has implemented a strict LEMP (Land & Environmental Management Plan) management process, ensuring that sites are maintained in accordance with recommendations from ecologists and land authorities. A number of biodiversity enhancement measures have been implemented across the portfolio. These include sheep grazing, creation of bug hotels and the installation of bat, bird and owl boxes.
Bluefield has been trialling placement of beehives on various sites, supporting local bee farmers as well as surrounding ecosystems. There are plans for the widespread deployment of hives across the portfolio.
Bluefield is an equal opportunities employer and we are committed to ensuring high staff welfare across all of our businesses.
Community benefit schemes are supported across the portfolio. Donations help fund local councils and parishes for charitable, educational, environmental, amenity or other appropriate purposes.
